Report: Minister says Russia has no kill switch for Internet

VLADIVOSTOK, Jun 9 (PRIME) -- Russia does not have a kill switch to disconnect the domestic Internet, known as the Runet, from the international one, Digital Development Minister Maksut Shadayev said in a broadcast late Monday on television channel Channel One.

“We have a great deal of connection operators, a great deal of Internet providers, they all have cross-border connections. In this sense, it’s almost impossible to technically block the Internet,” Shadayev said.

Work of some services can be forced to degrade for some time, he said.

“But there is no kill switch to cut the Russian Internet from the global one, it does not exist. There is no task on the political level to create it,” the minister said.
